It’s that time of year. I’m not talking about fall, or even the coming of Halloween. What would I be speaking of? Food and Wine at Epcot, of course! Thousands flock to Disney World at this time of year to sample food and drinks (at reasonable prices) from “around the world.” I visited this year’s on the first day to take into account the must-haves of 2011’s Food and Wine Festival.
I’ll have three separate blogs, one for food, drinks, and desserts. Check all three out. =] This one will be on desserts.
My first notable mention is at the Desserts and Champagne pavilion. While you could have all the desserts on their own, why not get all three major ones in a Dessert Trio? It’s not expensive, and you get to have three-in-one. The three desserts in the trio are: Lemon Chiffon, White Chocolate Macadamia Mousse with Dark Chocolate Pearls, and Tres Leches Verrine. The Lemon Chiffon is sweet and light, the White Chocolate Macadamia Mousse delicious with that slight crunch desired with the Dark Chocolate Pearls, and the Tres Leches Verrine has a pound cake taste with a wonderful caramel blended in. All three are amazing and complement each other well. It’s a great stop for a dessert that will fill you up for a small period of time.
Another notable mention is the Apple Strudel in Germany. The dough wasn’t too tough, the caramel sauces bringing out the flavor, and the apples were cooked perfectly where they were chewy but still had a slight crisp, a sure sign of fresh apples. I hadn’t tasted this dish before, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. It’s not too heavy either, so it’s a nice dessert snack between countries.
Lastly, there is my ultimate favorite: the Belgium Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream in, where else but, Belgium. It was so amazing, I had two! No, not really- my mother was with me. Still, that’s proof it’s amazing, right? She didn’t even want to share. The waffle is doughy and cooked great, and the berry compote, with blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries, complement it perfectly. I could easily eat those all day. It’s most definitely worth buying.
There are other delicious desserts to try; these were just some of my favorites. Even if you don’t have these, I hope you come to Disney World and try out some other countries. Trust me; it’s worth it to make a trip to Disney World for this festival.
Stay Tuned to read all about the drinks tomorrow
