Eating Healthy Snacks at the Magic Kingdom! By Guest Blogger Tanya Mistysyn

It’s no surprise that trying to maintain a healthy diet while at Walt Disney World can be a challenge. With the abundance of delicious foods and desserts (think Zebra Domes!) the resorts and parks offer it is easy to fall off the wagon while on vacation. However, with a little bit of planning and knowing where to look, any guest trying to be conscious of what they are eating can have a great time in Disney without packing on the pounds.

The best place to start when looking for a healthy meal, weather sits down or quick service is to take a look at the park guide map. Disney has added a symbol, a picture of an apple, to their maps which can help guests identify locations which offer both vegetarian options as well as balanced meals.
Snacking is something that almost all guests take part in while on vacation, and that is often the downfall of healthy diets. Focusing on where to get healthy substitutes can help guests maintain their healthy lifestyle while not sacrificing variety or flavor.

The Magic Kingdom offers guests a wide variety of healthy options for their stay, starting on Main Street U.S.A. While it may be in the best interest of the guest to skip the Main Street Confectionary, that does not mean guests should skip the bakery as well. Serving fresh fruit as well as bottled water and juices, the Main Street Bakery is a great place to grab a quick snack before heading out into the park. If guests are looking to satisfy a sweet tooth, they can also stop at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor to indulge in some sugar free sorbet or fat free ice cream.

Continuing into Adventureland, guests can stop by Aloha Isle to enjoy fresh cut pineapple on a skewer. While this is one of the only stops to grab something fresh and light in Adventureland, once guests are into Frontierland, they can stop in Peco’s Bill Café for a vegetable burger or salad. Liberty Square has one of the best locations, The Liberty Square Market, to grab a quick healthy snack on the go. At this outdoor market, guests can purchase an assortment of items such as vegetable cups, fresh fruit, and even a baked potato! While the temptation of funnel cakes may be strong, for guests looking for soy milk, they can make a quick trip to Sleepy Hollow which is also located in Liberty Square. This section of the park also contains The Columbia Harbour House where guests can enjoy one of several salads.

Crossing into Fantasyland, guests can also enjoy salads at Pinocchio Village Haus. Fantasyland may be sparse on healthy snack options, but Tomorrowland offers many great snacks and quick service meal options for the health conscious. At Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café guests can choose from many options such as Rotisserie Chicken, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches (lose the bread for an even healthier option), Wraps, and Salads. This location might just be the best bet for healthy eating at the Magic Kingdom! For an afternoon sweet treat, guests can head over to Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies for a fruit smoothie made with no-fat ice cream (this is wonderful for hot days)!

While there are other options around the park in the form of locations which are open seasonally and carts with Minnie Mouse Strawberry Fruit Bars, it is easy to see how with a bit of planning and knowledge, a person can maintain a healthy lifestyle while still on vacation.
