4 Places to Find Rare Characters By Nishelle Robbins

One thing that sets Disney apart from its competition is the character experience in the parks. Ask someone what they think of when you mention Walt Disney World and they’ll probably say they see Mickey Mouse or Cinderella greeting a little princess. Characters are essential to the park vacation experience, especially when visiting for the first time or traveling with children.
But, a character experience does not have to be a simple classic Minnie or Goofy experience. In fact, it’s more fun to seek out characters that are a little out of the ordinary.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Camp Minnie-Mickey
Camp Minnie-Mickey traditionally offers Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald in their Safari best. However, while Minnie and Mickey have gone in for some cheese for a few minutes, sometimes their more rare friends will come out to say hi. For example, I’ve been able to run into Miss Bunny and Thumper. Sometimes the Br’er characters (known from Splash Mountain) will also make an appearance. You never know who might be visiting camp!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios: The Hat
When Hollywood Studios opens, many guests run over to either Toy Story Midway Mania or the Jedi Training Academy to start their day. If you’re not in a hurry for either of these, it’s a good idea to hang back by the giant Sorcerer Mickey Hat and check out the characters. Although this meet and greet is listed on the park’s Times Guide, it doesn’t tell you that the characters are dressed up a little differently than normal.

Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Chip, Dale, Goofy, and Pluto like to greet guests in the morning in their old-Hollywood best. For example, Chip and Dale will be wearing ties and Minnie wears a pink dress. They’re not out for long (typically from 9am-11am), but it’s worth the time in the morning to grab a photo with the characters dressed up. Sometimes the Hundred-Acre Woods friends will pop up as well (but they aren’t dressed any different than normal).

EPCOT: The International Gateway
Typically you can find characters in EPCOT at character spot or their home country. However, sometimes some rare characters like to visit the International Gateway to see some of their friends in EPCOT. For example, Megara from Hercules has been out there before. The downside with this location is that there is no way to know when they’re going to be there; it’s completely random.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios: The Magic of Disney Animation

Inside the Magic of Animation building is an area where you can meet Sorcerer Mickey, The Incredibles, and Winnie the Pooh. However, sometimes some of their other friends will make an appearance. Walking through the building, you can sometimes find Belle (in her normal outfit, not her golden dress), Stitch, Mary Poppins and her penguins, the Evil Queen, or Pinocchio, and Geppetto. This is probably one of the best places on property to get these special characters, and they often pop up in the afternoon.

Character hunting is such a fun experience and it can be exciting to meet characters that you can’t normally or easily meet. When in doubt if anyone will be out at these special locations, ask a cast member. And while walking in the parks, always keep your camera available and your eyes open!
