Disneyland announces casting for new parade

Disneyland is seeking parade performers for a new, “Entertainment extravaganza” based on the upcoming “Princess and the Frog” film.
“The Princess and the Frog” is an animated, Broadway-style musical movie set in New Orleans. The plot centers around heroine Tiana, played by Anika Noni Rose, and Prince Naveen of Maldonia, played by Bruno Campos, a prince who was turned into a frog by a voodoo doctor. The frog prince asks Tiana to break the spell by kissing him, but instead, Tiana turns into a frog as well, leading them on an adventure through the bayous of Louisiana. The film is scheduled for wide release on December 11.
The film has been met with controversy. Originally, the heroine was going to be named Maddy, which is perceived by some as a lower-class, “slave name.” Previous plans also show that she was going to be a maid, which was regarded by some as racially insensitive.
Disneyland will be promoting the movie with Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee, a colorful, vibrant riverboat extravaganza featuring songs and music from the film. The show begins Nov. 6. Though nothing official has been announced yet, fans speculate that Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee will utilize the Mark Twain Riverboat and the surrounding area of New Orleans Square.
