4 Reasons to Visit DTD During the Day By Nishelle Robbins

Downtown Disney is a little-known gem at Walt Disney World. Many guests overlook downtown as they are determined to hit the theme parks during for the majority of their vacation. When guests do visit downtown, it’s often at night to catch the entertainment, shopping, and dining. However, for those guests who visit WDW often, Downtown Disney is a must-see during the day.

Must-See in the Morning and Early Afternoon
The World of Disney is a definite stop you have to make while in Downtown Disney no matter what time you visit. The World of Disney is the largest Disney retail store in existence and is complete with 12 different rooms featuring merchandise ranging from men’s, women’s, kitchen supplies, kid’s, accessories, and much more.

This store often can become very busy and hectic during the night time, as some guests like to make it their final, big shopping spot. Visiting World of Disney during the day can be a much calmer experience because you don’t have the tired families trying to finish their shopping before close. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to check out all of the decorations throughout the store without being pushed and shoved in the late night shopping rush. And if you’re buying gifts and plan on going to a park later and don’t want to drag your purchases with you, you can get your items shipped to your Disney resort free of charge (provided you are not checking out the next day) or to your home (shipping fees apply).

Afternoon Adventures
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (inside World of Disney) provides daytime entertainment, starring the little princesses and princes of the day. Around 2pm every day, the Fairy Godmothers in Training and the transformed little guests get their chance to be in their own parade. This parade is short and marches outside of World of Disney and down the marketplace to the carousel. It’s the perfect distraction and reason to sit back as the day warms up.

When you’re hungry, Earl of Sandwich is the perfect place to pick up lunch. Although it is not Disney-owned, Earl of Sandwich is a delicious way to satisfy your hunger. This shop has sandwiches in every variety, including classics like ham and cheese and more exotic flavors like pineapple barbecue and even a holiday sandwich (during the holiday season) that is like Thanksgiving in a sandwich. They also have sides like potato salad, chips, and desserts. Even better, this location accepts the Disney Dining Plan.

Continuing the Day
Finally, one of the least used amenities at Downtown Disney is the water taxi. These taxis run from either between the Marketplace, Pleasure Island and the Westside, from the Marketplace to Port Orleans, or from Pleasure Island to Old Key West, the Treehouse Villas, or Saratoga Springs. The taxis run often (every 10 minutes during the day) and are a great way to get out on the water for a relaxing ride to check out some of the resorts or to get from the Marketplace to the Westside. It’s something fun that Downtown Disney offers that not a lot of guests take advantage of.

If you’re thinking of visiting one of the Walt Disney World theme parks after your day in Downtown Disney, you can take any bus to a Disney resort and then take transportation from the resort to the parks (transportation to the parks is not provided directly from Downtown Disney).
Downtown Disney is one of the most fun places on property to get away from the parks, even if it is only for a few hours. Although the nighttime at Downtown Disney is hot, the day time is an experience in its own.
