Improvement District
15 miles southwest of the City of
Orlando is Reedy Creek. The District currently encompasses
approximately 25,000 acres or 38.6 square miles. Approximately
18,800 acres of the District's property are located in Orange
County and 6,200 acres are located in Osceola County. Two cities
are located within the boundaries of the District, the city of Lake
Buena Vista and the City of Bay Lake.
6 ambulances provide advanced life support service, staffed with
paramedics who are qualified to perform multiple procedures
including life-saving semi-surgical procedures, advanced
last-chance airway maneuvers and external cardiac pacing.
40 stand alone PC's were originally the Reed Creek technology
network it has now grown to utilizing approximately 200 networked
PC's, three Local Area Network file servers, a series of UNIX based
Governmental Applications, a UNIX based Geographical Information
System (GIS), a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), a
Wide-Area Network linking all RCID systems together, Electronic
Mail, and access to the Internet.
23 water control structures and 47 miles of canals with 22 miles of
levees are Built and maintained by the Reed Creek Planning and
engineering department.
113 lane-miles of roadways, 70 lane miles which have been
constructed by the Reedy Creek District, none of which have been
funded by county, state or federal funds.
300 full-time employees approximately are employed by the RCID.
Each year, RCID Personnel Services recruits and processes an
average of 33 new employees.
34-year in service for the RCID, they have constructed over
45,076,719 square feet of structures that are subject to annual
inspections.
731 elevators and escalators are inspected on 6-month intervals by
the RCID.
49 amusement rides for which Reedy Creek are also responsible for
regular inspections by the RCID.
40,050 permits and 1,650 Certificates of Occupancy have been issued
since 1969 by RCID.
$1,287,323 permit revenue was generated by the 4,794 permits in the
year 2003.
1,500 structures are fire inspected each year, by the RCID
Emergency Services department.
450 commercial kitchens are inspected weekly by the RCID Emergency
Services.
500,000 fireworks shells are fired annually within the boundaries
of the District with the RCID providing permitting and inspection
for every pyrotechnic display.
23,000 911 calls were made in the year 2002 by RCID Emergency
Services.
5,475 alarm points are monitored by the Communication Center, which
is operated by the RCID.
5 million gallons of water per day is used for irrigation of golf
courses and other landscaped areas.
15 million gallons per day of wastewater id processed though the
wastewater system that consists of a tertiary treatment
plant.
11 Floridian Aquifer wells and four pump stations with a total
design rating of 60 million gallons per day to meet an average
daily demand of 14 million gallons of water.
5 aboveground water storage tanks having a combined capacity of
7.95 million gallons help keep up with demand during peak
periods.
3,000 sensors are on WDW property that detect unusual water flow to
help control flooding
813.000 pounds of packing material is saved each year by Disney
purchasing jumbo rolls or toilet paper and paper towels
263,085 pounds of waste was saved each year by reducing the napkin
dispensers by 25%
1 million pounds of broken wood, surplus wood, shipping pallets are
collected and ground into garden mulch
50 million gallons of water are saved each year by the toilet and
sink sensors
700 tons of food scraps waste is used each year as livestock feed
and even more is composted
30,000 pounds of unserved food is donated to local food banks
